Hundreth Post Yarn Giveaway!!

For my hundreth post, I'm excited to offer a yarn giveaway. This yarn is from my inventory of recycled yarns that I sell on etsy at Howard Knits. I recycle only top quality sweaters with luxury yarns. The only disadvantage that I have found about recycled yarn is that manufacturers use knots to do joins, so they are occassionally encountered in the yarn. But I would never offer up yarn that I wouldn't knit with myself, and this yarn is AMAZING!

Photobucket

Should you win, the yarn you will receive is a dove grey 70% silk/15% cotton/15% cashmere blend. You will get a total of 810 yards (divided into two skeins). At 15 wpi, it is appropriate for any project that calls for a sport/DK weight yarn.

Photobucket

The yarn is dry clean only.

If you tried to buy similar yarn at yarnmarket.com, you'd spend at least $80 for this much yardage. You'll get this for free! All you have to do to enter is leave a comment below about what you would like to make with this yarn. I always love to see what other people are thinking about knitting!

Photobucket

On Thursday, I will use a random number generator to determine the winner. So let the commenting begin! Good luck! And thanks for sharing my hundreth post with me!

Congrats on your 100th post!! I would love that yarn...and I would probablly make a toddler sized pilot pixie hat for Mr. almost 1 year old's birthday, and maybe some matching pants, but I really think I'd make MYSELF some dashing fingerless mitts, long in the length, with some cables...eh? Yep, I think so. They'd be so soft!

My size is petite small - so I will make a looooong cardigan

I'm here through Ravelry too. I would make a Bolero with this yarn. It's beautiful and looks super soft!

Congrats on your 100th post.

How cool that you're doing this. I found it on Ravelry. I would make an incredible vest for myself so I hope I win, lol!

That yarn is absolutely beautiful! You are very generous for hosting a yarn giveaway! I love to make yarn accessories and I think a knitted or crocheted flower broach is an elegant touch to a casual sweater or a scarf. I would create a set of delicate flower broaches to give to my bridesmaids (I am getting married in May). Since this yarn is dry clean only, these broaches would not stress the yarn with harsh usage.

Congrats on your 100th post!!

I would make a shawl for my grandma, she loves those pale colours and she's always admired the shawls I made for me and my mom.....

Congratulations!!! What an accomplishment! Enter me! I want to win! Pick me!

100 posts? AMAZING!!!

I've really been wanting to make a shrug. One that could be used for those dress up occasions. I think this yarn would be perfect!! If there is enough left I would make another for my mom!

Anonymous said...

Oh my, that's pretty isn't it? Let me see.... I usually use fingering weight yarn (for socks, socks, and more socks), but there's this skirt I've been drooling over which calls for a DK weight -- and this would be PERFECT! It would drape beautifully and oh my what a lovely color. Oh yes, I can see it now....

I would probably make a couple of vintage inspired clutches. I will be moving away from a very close friend this summer and it would be wonderful to have matching clutches no matter how far away from one another we are.

Congratulations on 100!!! I can think of many lovely things to make from this yarn and, for once, it would be for me! .......likely a vest or shawl....I am here from Ravelry.

Congrats on your 100th post !!! :)

I would definetly use it to do a long sleeves shrug and if some left... a hat for myself or if not enough, one for my baby to come and booties !

That yarn is so pretty! I'd have to make something that would be close to my face or hands. Congrats on 100 posts!

Congrats on your 100th post! I found you on Ravelry--thanks for posting about your blog. I look forward to reading your past posts.

After an hour contemplating my gigantic queue and favorites lists on Rav, I decided that if I won your yarn I would attempt to make the gorgeous Alpaca Baby Shawl from Marie Grace Designs: http://www.mariegracedesigns.com/marie_grace/2007/02/alpaca_baby_sha.html. I've been in love with that pattern for quite some time, and since we have a baby boy due next month, it would be the perfect heirloom to make for him.

Continued luck with your blog!

I found you through Ravelry! The yarn is a beautiful shade of grey and the yardage is great! Please enter me in your drawing.

What I wouldn't give to have that yarn. I even have a patern allpicked out - (just in case I win!)- the color is fabulous and I LOVE the fact that it is recycled. That is totally amazing! I just want to say that I have read a lot of profiles on a lot of blogs and I think yours is the best ever. How totally unique and totally you - I am sure. Love it! Thanks for also dropping by on my blog and signing in to hopefully win the knitting needles or the knitted birds nest.
Love your blog---

First of all, CONGRATS! Your business is very interesting and inspiring. I love the concept, but have such a tough time buying yarn without seeing it "live" and touching it. This is such a great way to reuse what we already have here on our planet. Hmmm...I just might have to take a chance and try an online yarn purchase. If I had some dove grey 70% silk/15% cotton/15% cashmere blend yarn I'd like to make something I've been thinking about...it would best be described as a cross between a blanket and a scarf, think long narrow blanket of super-wide scarf. I'd call it a "Reading on the Couch Wrap" Now...to go and peruse what else you have in stock.

Hey, came here through Rav.

I would love to use this yarn for a special shawl for myself. I'd love to choose a pattern that could be used for passing down through the generations. A traditional style that would be passed through the women in my family. :)

Absolutely amazing--I would make a shawl or a scarf

This is most likely going to be made into some toasty fingerless gloves, from the Evenstar pattern on Ravelry, they would be just perfect. It's frequently very cold in my appartment and the church where I practice music.

sheree said...

Congrats on your 100th post! I got here via Ravelry and I'm excited at the prospects of winning yarn. Oh, I'd use it to make a shawl for the friend who is my "go to" person for knitting questions, even though she lives 2800 miles away!

ikkinlala said...

I'd make a shawl or scarf because I think this yarn would drape wonderfully.

I adore grey! I would love to knit an open cardigan to be worn with just about anything. To be wrapped in those fibers would be heavenly. Congratulations! (Thanks also for the hat patterns.)

I saw your post and Ravelry and hopped on over. I love your post about your marriage and husband. May God continue to bless your union.

I love grey and this will be perfect yarn to knit an open cardigan which I have been wanting to make. Can you imagine how soft and drapable it would be? Congratulations! Thanks also for the hat patterns - I've started one today.

Wow, what a lovely idea! Thank you. If I won your beautiful recycled yarn, I think I'd knit Bitterroot, from Knitty, Winter 2009. But first I'd spend some time petting it and dreaming of all the items I could knit. I'd probably change my mind about which pattern I'd knit, maybe even start something and frog it before finally completing my original choice.

Cheers!

Hi, congratulations on your 100th! I also got here thru ravelry. Not very active there but very active in the fiber arts. I love that you recycle yarn - so do I! At times I think I have more sweaters than skeins in my house ;-) what I would make with this?...a cowl or mobius wrap. i hate wearing hats but hate when my ears get cold, Chicago winters can be downright brutal!! blessings, nance

arcadienne said...

Also got here from Ravelry. Congratulations on your 100th post, and may you have many hundreds more!

Looks like that yarn would have a nice shawl or shrug, or several nice cowls. Happy knitting to whoever wins!

katerina said...

Congratulations on your 100 post - It's always amazing to realize how much you've written!

I think I'd either make this shawl:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/bitterroot
,
or a christening gown for my son - both would be lovely! Great giveaway, and thanks for the reminder about recycled yarn!

4oaks said...

I absolutely love the idea that this yarn is recycled! I would love to give it a second life as the Cedar Leaf Shawlette and the Gail(aka Nightsongs) shawl. Items that wouldn't require frequent cleaning, as it is dryclean only. There would be enough yardage for both.

Rachelle said...

That's beautiful yarn, would have to be a shawl, it would be wonderful for an evening shawl when going out to dinner.

the blogosphere is a great place to chronicle all the lives you have lived. I noticed you have done so much with your life. congrats...

i would make a men's scarf for my brother. he wants one with a keyhole and it needs about 660 yds. with the remaining i would make claw gloves for a man bicycling across america in 2009 for the third time after a head injury, nationalbicyclegreenway.com.

Heard about this via Ravelry.

I am MamaMay on Ravelry.

I will most likely start by dyeing it because silk and cashmere dye wonderfully. And dove gray makes a wonderful base color. What to knit after that... most likely I will design a skirt, Silk (at least mostly silk) skirts are so nice in Hawaii (where i live) because they breath so well and have such wonderful drape. If I have extra... I don't know... into the mural i am making of all scrap yarns I get?

Hi, one of your return buyers on etsy; congrats on your 100th post. I would make a scarf for my mom who taught me to knit in the first place.
