Notecards for Sale

So I've found a good source for note cards and I'll be listing individual notecards on my etsy store for $3.oo a piece ($1.50 shipping) and combinations of 6 cards for $17.00 ($3.00). The cards measure 5x7 inches and will be printed on 111 lb. weight card stock. The front has a soft matte white finish and your order will include white envelopes. If you'd like a combination of cards, you can choose which cards you want, the number of each (to total 6) to come up with your own custom package. The etsy listing for the combination of 6 cards will direct you back to this post so that you can see all of the photos you can choose from; I will add new ones as they become available.

Dining Room Dreaming

So you all know that I am perennially redesigning my house in my mind. Recently I've gotten back to what I'd like to do with the dining room when Collin moves out of it and it can be a dining room again. This time, I've been looking at Kitchen Tables that would fit into my eclectic, sort of vintage, especially Mid-Century Modern decorating scheme.

Photobucket

The Modus Hudson X-Base Dining Table fits into that whole groovy Mid-Century Modern scheme. I absolutely love the styling of it, although it may be a bit Too modern for my tastes.

The way I usually go with a dining room table is something well made, expandable (this one has a butterfly leaf), with a Shaker Style. This way the dining room table doesn't dominate the room and the focus can be on an amazing sideboard or piece of art. The Hillsdale Plainview Dining Table in Brown totally fits the bill.

Photobucket

I had to include this table because it is so elegant. Can you imagine having a candlelit dinner at this gorgeous piece of furniture? Unfortunately for this family, we need a larger table. Last Thanksgiving there were 10 of us, and I don't even have grandchildren yet! When I get my mansion with multiple dining areas, I'll definitely have to have the Hooker Furniture Linden Hill Round Dining Table.

Photobucket

And then I found it. The perfect amalgam of vintage look that is simple enough to fit into my MOM home and is just, well, beautiful (I must warn you, it has a beautiful price tag to match). I am telling you, the heavens opened and the angels sang to me when I saw the Stanley Hudson Street Warm Cocoa Riverside Oval Dining Table. Then I showed it to my daughter, who said "It looks like a table. I don't get it." Well, dear daughter, you don't have to get it. I am in love.

All of this goodness can be found on CSN, from whom I've always gotten great service and have become a loyal shopper. In about a week I will have a product to review for you (not sure what the product will be at this point, but am excited nonetheless). If you haven't shopped CSN, go and have a look around. They've got some wonderful things.

August Break: Grass Head, Pottersville Bridge

Photobucket

Will and I have been walking the path at Pottersville Bridge. It is so beautiful, full of butterflies and enormous monster weeds and wildflowers. The only sounds are of cicadas and grasshoppers and birds. He got tired of me taking pictures of everything; there was just so much beauty!

August Break: End of Season, Hollyhock Leaves

Photobucket

A few days ago, you got to see my hollyhock leaves at the beginning of the season. Now you get to see what they look like at the end. Weathered by time, rust, and insects they become lacy and ethereal shadows of what they once were.

Emily Joyce asked me in one of my comments if my August Break photos would be up for sale. After I use rollip.com, the photos are low res, so they wouldn't be appropriate for 8x10s, but I am looking into making note cards available and will be offering individual and combinations of note cards available soon in my store, Howard Knits.

August Break: Hot Child in the City

Photobucket

I saw this car and it took me back to sneaking into the Drive-In Movie, waiting in line for gas, trying to move like The Solid Gold dancers, begging my mom for clogs, playing our "Disco" pinball machine in the basement with with song "Pinball Wizard" playing in my head, and our awesome yellow AMC Pacer that I thought looked like a lady bug . . . so many fond memories of the late 70's.

August Break: Nothing Like a Sleeping Baby

Photobucket

Will sleeps with us. When he was around 2-1/2 years old, Tim started falling asleep in the bed with him. I would be up working all hours of the night and he would fall asleep with the baby. And a co-sleeper was born. And a year later he's still there. I will admit that I love waking up and seeing him there. And that's where I'm going to leave it. Hopefully when he's in high school he'll sleep in his own bed!

August Break: Parking Place

Photobucket

Will likes to park his cars on the piano. Usually, the whole piano is covered. I think it's quite clever, myself, but then, I'm biased.

For those that were too young . . .

. . . or my foreign friends who didn't have the delight as a child of understanding my last post, I thought I'd give a bit of an explanation. Crabby Appleton was a constant in my childhood. Whenever I was sullen or angry, my mom would say, "Don't be a Crabby Appleton." Automatically, this wonderful man and his amazing show would pop into my head and I would have warm fuzzies full of ping pong balls and moose and Green Jeans.

This is Captain Kangaroo, an American children's show that ran from 1955 to 1984, making it the longest running children's show in television history. Click on the link and you'll hear the theme song that entranced millions of children through out the years.

In the early years, Tom Terrific was a cartoon that was part of the Captain Kangaroo show. Tom Terrific could change shapes into anything to prevent terrible things, like the dates on the calendar changing, from happening.

Photobucket

Tom Terrific's arch villain was Crabby Appleton, whose nefarious deeds he was always trying to thwart. Crabby Appleton was "rotten to the core" and wanted to make everyone unhappy.

Photobucket

Bob Keeshan, who played and produced Captain Kangaroo, was in children's television from the advent of television. He played the original Clarabell the Clown on the Howdy Doody show. In developing Captain Kangaroo, he wanted his character to be a warm, grandfatherly person that all children could relate to. From 1955 to 1984, he was. In 1981, Keeshan suffered a severe heart attack and the show was slowly phased out of CBS's children's morning line-up until it's cancellation in 1984. He died in 2004, and is missed by generations of Americans. During his career, he received numerous Emmys, Children's Service Awards, a Peabody Award, The Kennedy Center Honor, was inducted into the Clown Hall of Fame, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by Alfred College and Dartmouth College.

So there you go. American Pop Culture 101. Take notes, because Captain Kangaroo will Definitely be on the Final Exam.

We miss you, Captain.

August Break: Don't be a Crabby Appleton!

Photobucket

My name is Crabby Appleton,
I'm rotten to the core
I do a bad deed every day,
and sometimes three or four
I can't stand fun for anyone,
I think good deeds are sappy,
I laugh with glee,
it pleases me,
when everyone's unhappy!

Kick it old school!

And don't be a Crabby Appleton!

Resurrection lily bud

And the stately lilies stand Fair in the silvery light, Like saintly vestals, pale in prayer; Their pure breath sanctifies the air, As its fragrance fills the night.

August Break: Immaculate Heart

Photobucket

I collect statues of saints. This bisque statue of Immaculate Heart of Mary is my favorite. She is just so beautiful, full of ethereal grace.
