When the milkman came

It's amazing, really, how different life is than 100 years ago (even 50 years!). There are reminders all around us, like this milkman's urn. Look around you. What do you see that reminds you of how different life is now?

I love to go to auctions. There is always so much interesting and old items to be picked up and brought home. I have an old metal pot bellied stove sitting outside by my garage that my husband wasn't happy that I bought...because it weighs a ton, but I couldn't help myself, it only cost $3.00--and that was a deal.
You are correct in how much things have changed and I would even say the last 20 years. Love the picture by the way.

You are so right! I too think of this often. Even the differences my daughters have vs how it was for me at their age.

That is a lovely piece. We didn't have those, but we do still have some glass milk bottles that used to be left at our back door three days a week.

Gosh...the obvious thing that I don't see are pay phones. We have been reading Laura Ingals Wilders "The Long Winter" where they run out of supplies they had been depending on because the train can't get through. Pa comments that they had become too dependent on modern advances. We had our cell phone break the other day when we were trying to meet up with some folks and had no back up plan or meeting spot. I started looking around for a pay phone and we begain joking that we were like Laura and were overly dependent on "new" technology. Of course, realizing none of us were going to freeze to death.

I'm looking at the remenants from our dairy farm right outside my window.

I think typewriters are a blast from the past. Now that I am almost 50, I am starting to recognize a lot of items showing up on the antique sales! YIKES!

I used the phrase "carbon copy" to refer to my son--and he gave me this look... and I realized he had NO idea what I was talking about!

Love the photo... gorgeous!

The other day my daughter and I were talking about this. Do you remember the days without central air? I cant imagine not having A/C anymore! Like Douglas said, where are all those pay phones?
