August Break: Hot Child in the City

I saw this car and it took me back to sneaking into the Drive-In Movie, waiting in line for gas, trying to move like The Solid Gold dancers, begging my mom for clogs, playing our "Disco" pinball machine in the basement with with song "Pinball Wizard" playing in my head, and our awesome yellow AMC Pacer that I thought looked like a lady bug . . . so many fond memories of the late 70's.

Happy Blues

I am having a "now why did I decide to have a toddler?" day today. His favorite word now is "no," even if he means yes. He has learned to whine, he threw his food across the room at lunch, and has had two HUGE fits. There was a point when I wanted to drive him out into the country and kick him out the door. But then I'd miss him, and if the police found out, I'd go to prison. Yeah, there's that.

GAH!

So I have We Heart It finds today. the theme is "Happy Blues." Enjoy!

I Want a Gustavian Home

I'm thinking I want a classic Swedish home. I love blue and white, especially the icy blue of Gustavian design.

Who wouldn't want to live in a home so light and airy?

I love the mix of newer antiques with the classic colors. I could live here; go on, twist my arm.



When I saw this picture of a coffee shop in Sweden I thought "That would be a beautiful kitchen."



These living rooms are sublime.





Wouldn't you love to see these spaces in your home?







I'm afraid if I had these bedrooms, I'd never leave them.

My Inspiration Book

I love magazines. Love them. One day a few years back, I noticed that my pile of magazines in the corner was getting unmanageable, so I came up with the idea of cutting out the pictures that I liked and recycling the rest. I've been doing it ever since.



I have fun with my Inspiration book. Sometimes I make little collages and other pages are sentimental. Mostly, it is full of images that strike me in some way.





I have this daydream about my book. It is that someday some famous designer will move to Marysville (yup, it's a daydream) and they will become great friends with me and want to decorate my house. I will be able to pull out my book and say "this is what I like" and I will have the most amazing, unique house!





I do think it's important for people who are artistic to keep something like this. It helps us to understand what our true aesthetic is. Before I started keeping this book, I really didn't know that I was such a fan of muted colors (blue in particular) and that I loved primitive pieces and things that remind me of the Heartland so much.
