Groovy Little Town

Photobucket

I went to Yellow Springs, OH today with eldest daughter, William, and eldest daughter's friend Lydia. Yellow Springs is possibly the grooviest town in Ohio with lots of import shops, organic cafes, galleries, and just that artsy, hippie vibe that goes with a tiny college town (the Extremely Liberal Antioch College is located here.

We had a great day. We started at the Sunrise Cafe where all food is organic, made from scratch (but they do, thank the lord, have Diet Coke), and yummy. I had a portobello, spinach, and fontina cheese omelet with more portobello mushrooms than I have ever seen in one place in my life.

They have two really cool walls of cups at the entrance.

Then we shopped import shops and just walked around the town. And it's such a Cool town. I've wanted to live there for Years.

You know those tress that you see on the internet that people have crocheted and decorated? They are EVERYWHERE in Yellow Springs.

The town is so colorful. This bench is clay over concrete.

Flowers are everywhere. This garden is in front of an artist's co-op store.

The Village of Yellow Springs is a wonderful place to visit if you happen to be near Dayton or Xenia, OH. If you have the chance to visit, don't pass it up. You'll be blissed out that you went!

Happy Rainbow Electric Daisy

Here's the giveaway. Drawing tomorrow!

Okay. Before I tell my little story, I feel I must make the following disclaimer. I do not do drugs. I never have done drugs (really). Drugs are bad. Just say no.

I've not been doing so well these last few months and a dose of one of my medications has been increased. And it has hit me in quite an unexpected way. I am toasted. I feel a bit like a sleepy puddle of mush. I know that I'll get used to this eventually, but for right now, I'm enjoying my time in Happy Rainbow Electric Daisy land, where the people are happy, the cupcakes are never ending, and unicorns of all shapes and sizes frolic together in the fields.

I hope you enjoyed your visual journey to my land of wonder and imagination. If you know of a Real Happy Rainbow Electric Daisy land, let me know about it cuz' I wanna go. Preferably with Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young and Joni Mitchell. Gonna stop talking now.

1975

Another one of Pip's brilliant ideas: Go to Flickr, type in a random year, and post your favorite photo. What I found was amazing.

Have a Hippie Day: Accessories

You all know by now that I love etsy. I think it is the best marketplace for artisans anywhere. I love trolling the site for things I want to buy (but, alas, often can't). I'm tempted to spend a bit of my paypal balance on these great accessories.

All of these items are offered by vendors that have shops full of beautiful items. If you like an item, check the shop; you're likely to find more to love.

Have a Hippie Day

I love a bit of boho in my wardrobe. I try to put a boho twist into every outfit that I wear (except on my high school preppy frame of mind days). While surfing etsy, I found some great clothes to add to my arsenal.

I've always thought that boho didn't need to be kitchy or overdone, there are some amazing designers that put a modern twist on things. But then again, sometimes you just need a good patchwork skirt.

Photobucket
This amazing patchwork skirt by Urban Prairie Girl is $82.00

Indian clothing always lends an outfit a touch of hippie chic.

Photobucket

Rajastani skirt from East Indian Exports for $23.99.

Plum Pretty Sugar has the most amazingly beautiful clothing.

Photobucket
This cotton voile tunic dress is $68.00

The embroidered tunic top is light and feminine and quintessentially boho.

Photobucket
Spun Shop carries oodles of varieties of embroidered tops; this Mexican styled one is $45.00

Lace insets can take a flouncy, futsy shirt to hippie cool.

Photobucket
A cotton lace ruffle top from Beyond Clothing would look great with a pair of dark jeans. $35.00

Photobucket
I love this Tencel/linen tunic by Cocoricoo. $44.00

Every wardrobe needs a touch of whimsy. Katwise makes the most amazing "coat of many colors" patchwork garments out of recycled sweaters. They are always reserved; if you have to have one, you'll have to visit her store often. Her pieces don't come cheap, but they are amazing, one of a kind, and could become a statement piece.
